The Tudors - Season 1 recap
and some housekeeping!
Hello everyone!
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’m taking a bit of a break, and am currently not releasing new episodes of Door Key. Without getting too into detail, I’m going to say that I have a chronic illness (I promise that I’m not trying to be mysterious or secretive here, I just don’t want to talk about it too much publicly, as I don’t want it to define me). As much as I love doing the Spooktacular, and as much fun as I had doing it this year … I have to confess that doing *five* episodes in a month when my normal output is two episodes a month … well, it was a bit much for me. I truly loved every second of doing The Spooktacular, but my body has reminded me that I need to pace myself. I’m fine, but am listening to my body, and am very grateful for everyone’s patience during this break.
Recaps of episodes of The Tudors will be picking up again after this post – one episode a week, each Monday. As far as episodes of the podcast, I plan on releasing new ones starting in January, and those will be back to the regular every other Thursday. Now that doesn’t mean I won’t be here – I have some fun things planned for both the podcast and the Substack during the break, so keep your eyes open for that!

The Spooktacular is over, and so I’m going to be starting recaps of the show The Tudors for paid subscribers again!
Before the first episode of Season 2 starts, there’s a recap of the first season. A lot happens in the first season, and the first season recap is lengthy, so I thought it would be fun to do a recap of that … a recap of the recap, if you will.
While recaps of episodes of The Tudors is a feature for paid subscribers, I’m going to leave this post public so that everyone can see what I have going on here, and get ready for Season 2. A recap of the first episode of Season 2 will be coming next week, so you still have time to become a paid subscriber and get caught up on all of Season 1 if you’d like!

Many of the courtiers applaud, but Thomas More looks concerned … Thomas More tells Henry he’s a humanist so doesn’t like war, Henry responds by telling Thomas More that as a King, he disagrees with that … Charles Brandon bets Henry that he’ll sleep with Lady Buckingham … Henry makes Charles Brandon Duke of Suffolk … The Duke of Buckingham declares that he has a better right to the throne than Henry … Buckingham gets arrested for treason … Buckingham is executed … Henry tells Wolsey he has no male heir … Henry smashes a mirror … Catherine of Aragon tries to make her marriage to Henry work … Catherine tells her nephew the Holy Roman Emperor (HRE) about her marriage troubles with Henry … Catherine thinks Henry might want a divorce … HRE says a divorce is impossible … Henry says hello to Anne Boleyn … Thomas Boleyn tells his daughter Anne that Henry is tiring of having her sister Mary as his mistress, and suggests Anne attempt to win Henry heart … Anne says all of Henry’s relationships are quick … Boleyn suggests that Anne could find a way to keep Henry’s interest … Henry and Anne meet at a pageant … Henry and Anne introduce themselves to each other … Anne makes out with Thomas Wyatt … Henry asks Wyatt if he’s in love with Anne … Wyatt tells Henry he did love Anne, but it was from a distance … Anne tells Wyatt ‘Never, if you value your life, speak of me to others. Do you understand?’ … Henry tells Anne that he desires her with all his heart … Boleyn tells Anne that it’s her duty to use Henry’s love to her family’s advantage … Henry dreams of Anne … Catherine confronts Anne, and tells her that she’s not going to take Henry away from her … Henry and Anne make out, with Anne telling Henry that once they’re married she’ll give him a son … Henry tells Anne he’ll give her everything within his power, she just has to ask … Henry tells Wolsey he wants a divorce from Catherine … Thomas More doesn’t think the English people would ever forgive a divorce between Henry and Catherine … Henry tells Catherine that as far as he’s concerned, their marriage is over, and Catherine drops to her knees in despair … Catherine tells Anne that soon Henry will see her for who she really is and will tire of her, Anne asks ‘And what if he does not?’ … Wyatt says ‘If she gets her way, it will set our whole country in a war’ … Wolsey tells Henry that he’s summoned the conclave of the cardinals to make a final judgment on Henry’s annulment … Henry tells Wolsey to make sure they come to the right decision … A member of the conclave tells Wolsey that in this case, his reach has exceeded his grasp … Wolsey angerly leaves the trial about Henry and Catherine’s wedding as Anne asks if someone is deliberately stalling … Henry angerly tells Wolsey that he thinks Wolsey’s gone cold on the divorce and has been lying to him … Wolsey calls out for Henry as he’s being held back by guards … Wolsey tells Thomas More that if he’s not for him now, than he’s against him … Guards barge into Wolsey’s home and arrest him … Thomas More tells Henry he’s does not want to be chancellor, Henry tells him he will do as he commands … Thomas Tallis asks Wyatt if he thinks Cromwell is a great man? Wyatt says he thinks Cromwell is a coming man … Cromwell tells Henry that Kings are above the law and answer only to God … Henry thanks Cromwell … Henry says he will denounce the Pope as a heretic and marry whom he pleases … Thomas More angerly asks Henry if he wants the world to know that the King of England is incapable of keeping his word, he’s Henry’s humble servant … Henry swears to Anne that now everything will be different … Anne’s wearing a purple dress … A pageant is put on celebrating that Wolsey is he’s in prison … Wolsey commits suicide … Henry: ‘I’M THE KING OF ENGLAND!’ … Thomas More: ‘If the lion knows he own strength, no man could control him’.
