Hello everyone!
It’s April, host of the Door Key podcast!
I’ve been making the history podcast Door Key for almost two years now (wow!), and I’m still having fun and learning so much about history along the way. But even after finishing an episode, I find that I sometimes still have more to say. Sometimes it’s more about the topic of the episode, and sometimes it’s more about something completely different.
This Substack will be a place where I can:
Supplement the Door Key podcast
Dive further into Door Key podcast episode topics
Cover a topic that’s too short for a full podcast episode
My goal is to make this a fun place to learn about history - all kinds! And …
😂 hopefully sometimes make you laugh
🪐 the possibilities are endless
🧁 and that’s what has me so excited about this Substack
Like now.

What’s the story behind the Coal Miner’s Daughter song?
History is so much more than wars and elections. Music often educates us on our own history, like the Coal Miner’s Daughter song. This article shares the background of this song and it’s iconic singer, Loretta Lynn.
The Door Key newsletter plan
Door Key Podcast Substack will start releasing regularly every other Thursday in June.
The posts will be brief but powerful, and tied to whatever topic Door Key Podcast is currently about … but not fully. The beauty of having a platform like this now is that I’ll be able to branch out to different topics if I want to!
Free subscribers will get this Substack every other week.
Door Key Podcast Substack will also be offering a paid subscription to Door Key Podcast Substack that will offer:
Transcripts of podcast episodes
You’ll get to vote in polls about podcast episode topics
Community discussions about a historical show or movie
I’m so excited to start this Substack, and I’d love it if you’d join me!
